You don’t have to be unhappy to be open-minded

I came across a clip of James Sicily who was commenting on West Coast captain Oscar Allen having a chat with Hawthorn’s coach. Some people questioned it due to Oscar's seniority, but I really appreciated what Sicily had to say.

At the end of the day, no matter how loyal you feel to your current employer, you could be doing yourself a disservice by not exploring opportunities that could better your career; whether it’s financially, through broader exposure, or simply a fresh challenge that’s worth your time.
There’s a common misconception that only people actively looking for jobs take new roles, but in reality, many of the candidates we place are content in their current roles. What changes things is when we present an opportunity they wouldn’t otherwise get in their company; something that could genuinely elevate their career.

I really value Sicily’s point: it’s just bad business not to have those conversations. You don’t have to take the job, but having a chat puts you in a position to assess what’s out there and builds perspective.
If you’ve put in the work to build your career and an opportunity presents itself, why wouldn’t you take an hour to explore it? Worst case, you walk away more informed. Best case, it opens the door to something bigger.
